Library Link: Maker Books

I’m very supporting of integrating non-fiction titles into recommendations for children. This one in particular caught my eye. Its very important today to include both fiction and nonfiction titles to help support the new Common Core standards recently implemented, but librarian’s (including myself) often come from a reading background focused primarily on fiction. Reader’s advisory is a big part of the work I do with children. While Anne Arundel County Public Libraries are considered “Generalist” positions, all staff are responsible for doing reference work across populations. My participation in the programming and Early Literacy teams gives me an extra opportunity to interact with these kids and parents as well.

This list, while not exhaustive, includes fiction, nonfiction, and biographies that might be of interest to kids under 12 who are young crafters, builders, designers, and creators.
