Homeschool Art: Kandinsky’s Style with Music

Last week in Homeschool Art, we studied Kandinsky and learned about his style of art.

We even watched this video of him drawing, and talked about why its in black and white (because video was only in black and white then)

Then I played music, and each child drew what they heard in the music in Kandinsky’s style.  For this activity, you can introduce Kandinsky using youtube videos, children’s books or a website.

Activity

What you need:

  • tempura paint
  • thick paper
  • music-playing device
  1. Play music on your music playing device, while instructing kids to paint abstract designs in black while it plays.
  2. After they’ve done the designs in black, use the other tempura colors to color in the shapes.
